THE PRODUCTIVE PARK

Small parks can be meeting spots for a neighbourhood. A green oasis attracts local people, to sit in the shade of plants, and talk to each other. The aim is, to create small public gardens in poorly used parks. Creating productive gardens on a small scale can create an interest to participate, and the  neighbourhood becomes ever more personal.

In a bigger picture, these interactions strengthen friendships and alliances between the local community, which leads to a stronger network all around Piraeus.

The gardens produce edible vegetables and fruits, which are looked after by the neighbourhood. Taking again Barcelona as an example, a next step is, to open small vegetables and fruit shops. These shops sell local produce food. It is a way, to not transport simple foods, like tomatoes, miles around the country. In addition to the local production, the transport costs fall away and the food gets ever more affordable.

This idealistic approach will take time to develop, but looking to Barcelona, we can this vision already applied in working class communities.
